accredited and award winning library that provides lifelong learning
opportunities for people of all ages. Technology access and training are
available on site, as well as a wide variety of storytimes and programs. Many
digital resources are accessible around the clock. Patrons may check out books,
STEAM Kits, book packs, Launchpads, DVDs, and download eBooks, magazines and
newspapers, and stream movies.
Why We Measure Library Visitation
Plano Public Library serves the community with
five full-service libraries that span the city of Plano, strategically located
within five miles of every residence.
More than 4,200 people a day visit the library
to learn, meet, collaborate, borrow materials, and get information and
assistance. By measuring visitation, we can see the impact of the friendly,
knowledgeable staff and the physical space in support of a thriving community.
Why We Measure Program Attendance
More than 3,000 free programs and classes are planned each year to meet the needs of our diverse community.
Educational events for all ages bring families to the library to learn about STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & math), financial literacy, arts & culture and other topics. Parents learn the importance of early literacy while their children become school-ready through reading readiness storytimes and hands-on activities. Teens benefit from SAT/ACT test tutorials, college application preparation, technology and digital creativity tools, and life/work skills programs.
Job search workshops, entrepreneurship programs, genealogy seminars, technology training, and many other classes help adults improve their lives. Measuring program attendance tells us what is important to the citizens in our community and guides future program planning.

Why We Measure Materials Checked Out
Almost 800,000 items are available for check
out, including books, DVDs, audiobooks, Playaways, Launchpads, and STEAM kits
for all ages. Measuring usage of materials ensures that the libraries are
providing what is valued and of interest to the community.
Items are constantly evaluated for relevance
and value, and new items are purchased to meet the growing demand of our
educated community.
The annual check out total of 3.7 million
equates to more than 10,000 items checked out each day.
Why We Measure Mobile App Usage
The mobile app offers instant access to the
Plano Public Library.
Instant access through the mobile app gives
patrons the ability to view the catalog, place items on hold, scan an ISBN code
to see if the library has a copy of a book, check an account, download and read
eBooks, and more, all on the go!
Measuring app usage helps gauge how citizens
are engaging with the library outside of the physical space.
